Kannawa is an onsen town, which has many fumes rising from its many hot springs. If one walks the back alleys, you can still feel the atmosphere of a town for healing/rehabilitation. One can understand now the reason why the Mr. Yamada Yoji, director of the famous film-Tora san series (tiger series), raised a point that the street lined with neat row of houses should be conserved. In the Kannawa hot spring area, while strolling in the fumes, on the way there is a hell sultriness iron pot, which is used to steam cook eggs and corn. You can also gain experiences here that are unique and yet typical of Kannawa.

There are many wonderful European-style buildings and cottages, which were constructed in Beppu from the Taisho period to the beginning of the Showa period. Many of these buildings still remain around the Beppu station area towards the mountainside. There is a course where

Masters of the Beppu's night life, Bunchan and Hacchan of Nagashi, will guide you through Beppu's night with their singing lovely songs and playing beautiful melodies and live Japanese blues-enka performances. You can enjoy the course while they tease the shops that you drop in on. In each place you visit, the Yunomachi mama san guides there will guide you chanting poems in the seven-five-syllable meter.
